NEW CANAAN, Conn. - For the second year in a row, the New Canaan High School football team will have to put plenty of miles on the buses if the Rams want to make it back to the state finals. The Rams locked up the fifth seed in the Class L state tournament and will now hit the road for their first round game.

New Canaan travels to fourth-seeded New London on Nov. 29, for a 6:30 p.m. game. The Rams will have some idea what to expect from New London, as the Whalers played conference rival Greenwich earlier this season.

The Rams are seeking a trip to the state finals for the sixth year in a row and their fifth title in that span. Last season, New Canaan played games in Naugatuck and West Haven en route to the state championship in Hartford. The Rams ultimately fell to top-ranked Masuk.

New Canaan trounced rival Darien in the 18th annual Turkey Bowl, 42-21. It was the 10th straight Thanksgiving Day victory for the Rams over the Blue Wave.

Other Fairfield County teams that qualified for the playoffs are Staples, Ridgefield and Norwalk. Second-ranked Staples will take on conference rival and seventh-seeded Ridgefield at Wilton High School on Nov. 29 at 6:30 p.m. in the Class LL tournament. Fifth-ranked Norwalk will play in its first state playoff game since 1998 at Conard (West Hartford) on Nov. 29 at 6:30 p.m.
