NEW CANAAN, Conn. — New Canaan was on the losing end of a failed two-point conversion with the game on the line last season. But the Rams got to see what it is like on the winning end against New London in the Class L state quarterfinals on Tuesday.

New London scored the potential tying touchdown with 1:45 to play but elected to go for the win instead of the tie. Dylan Leeming stopped New London's power running back, Kyle McKinnon, inches short of the goal to preserve a wild 27-26 victory for New Canaan.

Known for their potent passing game, the Rams uncharacteristically stuck to the running game, rushing for nearly 350 yards as a team. Kevin McDonough provided 230 of those rushing yards on 22 carries. Quarterback Matt Milano was limited to just 82 yards passing but scampered 31 yards for the eventual game-winning score.

Peter Kraus got New Canaan on the board in the first quarter with a 5-yard touchdown catch. Rams kicker Collin Shapiro added a pair of crucial field goals.

New Canaan will face another tough opponent in top-ranked Windsor in the Class L semifinals. The site and time for that game have yet to be determined.
