NEW CANAAN, Conn. – A man threatened to hit a woman with a baseball bat during a robbery, New Canaan police said. 

The woman was getting out of her car on Millport Avenue near Lakeview Avenue at about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday when the man approached and threatened to hit her if she did not give him money, police say.

After the woman said she had no money, the man grabbed a bag from inside the vehicle and ran toward Lakeview Avenue, police say. The bag contained candles worth about $25. The woman was not hurt.

A police dog helped search for the suspect, who was described as a white male, possibly Hispanic, in his early 20s and weighing 110 to 120 pounds. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with white lettering and red sweatpants.
